Parkside, Wimbledon Village, London

New Summerhouse

A new build self-contained annexe over ground and basement floors in the grounds of a large Parkside villa. The brief required a flexible building for parties and entertaining that could also be let out for the Wimbledon Fortnight.

The design is inspired by the the ‘half-timbered’ main house but reinterpreted in a modern way; the timber frame is solid ‘glue-laminated’ Oak made off-site and assembled on site by crane, the basement is constructed of Caltite waterproof concrete and the building is heated, all underfloor, by air source heat pumps.

The ground floor primarily consists of an open plan reception room and kitchen, the basement contains a media room / bedroom, bathroom and utility / plant areas. The basement is naturally lit and ventilated via glass floor panels and a lightwell. The building is equipped with full air conditioning throughout.
