Montague Road, Richmond, London
Extensions and Internal Remodelling.
This old schoolhouse had been unsympathetically remodelled in the 90s and we were tasked with a functional reorganisation - relocating the kitchen and dining areas and adding a separate pantry / utility area - along with the requirement to instil a more appropriate character to the interior of this interesting property.
The earlier fully glazed mezzanine and stairs were repurposed with steel banisters / railings and refinished timber treads, and intrusive structural columns were removed from the underside of the mezzanine. Brickwork was revealed and a new 'herringbone' timber floor was laid over underfloor heating, whilst the double height living area was opened to the garden with full height sliding and pivoting doors.
Additionally the bedrooms and bathrooms on the more private lower floor were reconfigured and renewed.
